OUR STORY
Leigh Macfarlane is a Canadian author of over twenty published books that are primarily set in British Columbia, Canada.
Growing up, Leigh's family enjoyed taking long drives together, and that love of being on the open road grew deep roots in Leigh's heart. While her children were growing up, Leigh restricted herself primarily to local area day trips, but as they spread their wings and began to leave the nest, her own travel began to expand.
Leigh has a growing list of places she wants to see, and some of those trips are already booked. Some of those will be trips with her camp trailer, The Melissa, and some will take her overseas. This means, Leigh has a lot of learning to do.
One thing about road trips that Leigh has found is there is almost never only one route to arriving at a destination. If you're travelling and seeing the world, you might as well make the most of the ride, so when she's on the road, Leigh always tries to take a different route home. You see more that way, and the journey isn't just the destination, it's the round trip.
WHAT BC MEANS TO ME
Yesterday, I went paddleboarding. It was warm enough that I got a bit of a sunburn, but on the way home I noticed that the leaves are already turning red and gold. I love that I live somewhere where the trees are recognizing autumn, but the lake is still warm enough for swimming.
As I was driving home, I noticed a lot of cars coming the other direction, and that's when I remembered -- Art Walk! I stopped in at the annual art show that happens in my town every September. Wandering the art displays, I could hear someone playing acoustic guitar.
That's Chris, I thought. And I rounded the corner, and I was right.
So, to me, BC is home. It's a place where the views are spectacular, where the lifestyle is healthy, the people are friendly, and something great is always shows up on the drive home.
BC is more than that, though. It's a province where you can drive only a few hours and be in total wilderness or can be in a densely populated city. It's a province where the capital city isn't even on the mainland, but in that capital city, you can still find places that serve high tea. Then again, you can find Greek, or Mexican, or Indian, or Thai, or Italian, or... whatever you need. I even know a spot to buy bannock -- and it's so good.
British Columbia has so much to offer. I love this place. I'd like to share her with you.

I've heard it said that every place has its own spirit. We affect the land where we live, but the land where we grow also affects who we become.
Canada is a land of extremes. A land of variety. With a land mass of 9.98 million kilometres and a population of only 39.19 million, there are plenty of wide open spaces to see. Still, Canada has several cities with population densities in the millions. Each of those cities has a personality of its own.
To know a land, you have to get out there and see it. That's the plan.
