Meet "The Melissa" Travel Trailer
This May, my youngest child decided to come home from university for the summer. This was an about face for her plans, and it worked out well for me. My parents decided she needed somewhere to sleep. They decided to buy me a travel trailer.
"She can sleep in it for the summer, and then you can use it when you travel."
I got to choose the travel trailer, and this one spoke to me. She is a trailer. Her manufacturer is no longer in business. She has a space that clearly was a bathroom at one point but now has no plumbing, a kitchenette, a bed, and wood floors. It also has black cupboard doors, and garishly bright floral seat covers. I'm keeping the seats, repainting the doors.
We got the trailer home and I cleaned her up and fell in love. I made some plans, did a little bit of caulking in places, had a couple of days inside her just hanging out, and I gave her a name.
When I was a child, my parents brought me home a baby sister. I wanted to call her Melissa. They chose Carolyn, instead. As I tossed around names, I remembered this, and I just felt right. She is The Melissa!
When my daughter arrived home, I surrendered her for the summer, but summer's over baby! I don't think I'll be getting my travel trailer, The Melissa, on the road this year, but I do have plans for her. To begin, I'll be doing a little painting. Then The Melissa is going to get some serious primping. Follow along to see how her makeover turns out!
